WINNIPEG — Police made an arrest in the city’s first homicide of the year.
Winnipeg Police Service Const. Blair Good said officers arrested a 20-year-old man in relation to the shooting death of Shawn Beauchamp on January 11, 2009.
Beauchamp, 26, died after he was shot in his lower body near St. John’s Avenue and Charles Street. Police said the death was gang-related.

His family told the Free Press around the time of his death Beauchamp had been released from prison only one week before his death.
Police said this morning Beauchamp was pepper-sprayed by a second suspect before his death, and officers are seeking a 18-year-old man.
Good said a warrant has been issued for the man’s arrest, but police did not identify the man because he was 17-years-old in January 2009.
Joseph Burnell Head, 20, was arrested yesterday and is now charged with second degree murder.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 986-6508 or 786-8477.
