WINNIPEG–The Manitoba Liquor Control Commission is going to stop issuing photo identification cards.
Don Lussier, president and CEO of the MLCC, announced this morning that the MLCC is ending its photo identification program on June 29.
Lussier said the cards issued by the MLCC do not meet security requirements and the MLCC wasn’t prepared to incur the necessary costs to bring the cards up to date.
The cards have been used by people without a driver’s licence to prove their age, and were accepted by liquor stores and bars.
However, Manitoba Public Insurance announced last month that it has begun issuing photo ID cards that will replace those issued by the MLCC.
The MPI photo ID cards are available for $20 at any Autopac office or an MPI service centre.
The MPI photo ID cards cannot be used as a passport substitute but MPI does issue the enhanced photo identification cards that are accepted by U.S. customs at its border crossings.
