Mancini edges Collings for mid-amateur golf title

After a day of wild swings, Tyler Mancini of Pine Ridge got the job done at the Manitoba mid-amateur championship.

Mancini shot over-over 71 today at Southwood Golf and Country Club and with a par at the last hole, edged Amateur champion Garth Collings of Breezy Bend by a single shot.

Mancini, who had four birdies today, started the day with a two-shot edge, led by as much as three but was twice caught by Collings during the final round of the 72-hole event.

Collings, who shot even-par 70 that included three birdies and an eagle, bogeyed the final hole after forging a tie with a 15-foot birdie putt at No. 17.

Mancini, who shared or held the lead after each of the first three days, put a second title on his resume this season. He won the provincial match play championship in the spring.

Niakwa’s Terry James finished third by shooting 71 today, but was seven strokes behind the winner.

Niakwa’s Todd Fanning and Pine Ridge’s Mike Tibbs shared fourth, 13 strokes behind the winner.

The mid-amateur is for players 25 and older. Collings is the winner of the mid-masters division (40 and older).
