The Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ performance in their stellar second half in last Saturday’s 31-23 loss to Calgary Stampeders has garnered league-wide attention.

Bombers running back Fred Reid and defensive tackle Doug Brown have been selected as two of the CFL’s four Gibson’s Finest players of the week for week six.

Reid was named the offensive player of the week after he rushed for 167 yards against the Stampeders, with 150 of those yards coming in the second half, and scored two touchdowns. Reid, who beat out runner-up Montreal Alouettes quarterback Anthony Calvillo for the honour, also had 23 receiving yards.

Brown was selected as the Canadian player of the week after he recorded 11 tackles and two quarterback sacks while anchoring the Bombers’ stellar defence which held Calgary to eight second-half points.

The other two players of the week included B.C. Lions kicker Sean Whyte as the special teams player of the week and Hamilton Tiger-Cats linebacker Markeith Knowlton as the defensive player of the week.
