Gary Doer has dominated Manitoba politics for the past 10 years and led the New Democratic Party for 20. But as of next weekend, he is gone, becoming Canada’s ambassador to Washington.
Two former members of his cabinet are in the running to replace him.
They are both veteran public servants with solid political and academic resumés. They both came to Manitoba when they were 11. Both have been lifelong supporters of the NDP. But that’s where the similarities end between Steve Ashton and Greg Selinger.
