Memo to Blue Bombers fans: It’s officially 19 years and counting without a Grey Cup.
The 2009 season ended with a whimper – at the hands of former quarterback Kevin Glenn, no less – as the Bombers were eliminated from the postseason after a 39-17 loss at Canad Inns Stadium.
A near sellout crowd of 29,038 witnessed as Glenn, now the Tiger-Cats starting QB, finished 28-of-42 for 316 yards, along with a touchdown and two interceptions.
One of those Glenn interceptions was returned 58 yards for a touchdown by Bombers defensive back Lenny Walls. Winnipeg receiver Titus Ryan also hauled in a 60-yard TD pass from Bombers quarterback Michael Bishop.
However, that’s all the offence the Bombers could muster on Sunday.
Bishop completed just 8-of-26 passes for 122 yards – but the Tiger-Cats also had two touchdowns off Bishop interceptions by Markeith Knowlton and Jykine Bradley. Both interceptions came in the fourth quarter, when the Bombers imploded after a relatively tight game.
The Bombers only managed 10 passing yards in the final quarter.
The Tiger-Cats, 9-9, will now host the B.C. Lions in East semi-final next week.
The Bombers, 7-11, will go home.
