WINNIPEG – Singer and actor Tom Jackson was the guest speaker at the Salvation Army’s fifth annual Hope in the City breakfast at the Winnipeg Convention Centre this morning.
Jackson, who was raised in Winnipeg, spent seven years living on the streets.
"Every time I return to Winnipeg, I am reminded of why my heart is here," Jackson said as he looked over the crowd of close to 1,000 and spotted all the familiar faces.
"Our commitment to being human is to realize there’s a large gap between the haves and the have-nots," he said, "… and to find a way to shorten that gap."
The Thomas Sill Foundation presented the Salvation Army with a $9,000 cheque, and all funds raised at the breakfast’s kettle campaign were to be matched by Scotiabank.
