WINNIPEG — Winnipeg police are investigating two carjacking incidents which occurred within two hours of each other earlier this morning.
The first carjacking occurred at about 1:45 a.m. in the 400 block of Alexander Avenue, in the downtown area, when two people sitting in a vehicle were confronted by a man armed with a firearm and demanded they get out. The robber drove off in the vehicle.
Patrolling officers spotted the stolen vehicle at about 3:15 a.m. in the Young Street and Cumberland Avenue area. The suspect fled on foot but was caught.
A 19-year-old man is facing several robbery and weapon-related offences.
The second car-jacking occurred at about 3:30 a.m. in the 200-block of Cathedral Avenue in the North End. Two men pulled the driver of a vehicle out onto the street and assaulted him, then drove off with the vehicle.
Police later found the stolen car abandoned in the 900 block of Bannerman Avenue.
