WINNIPEG — Canada’s national men’s bandy team, based in Winnipeg, has compiled an undefeated record at the 2010 World Bandy Championship in Moscow.
Team Canada defeated Hungary 15-1 in its final game in pool B play to finish first overall. Leading Canada’s offensive onslaught was Evgeny Opytov with five goals while Winnipeg’s Brandon Ellement notched three goals while Johnathan Brett and Mark Ralph each added two along with singles from Brett Gavrailoff, captain Costa Cholakis and Nick Mazurak.
Canada’s next game will be Saturday when the team will take on the sixth place team from pool A in the A/B qualification match with the winner of that game qualifying to compete in pool A in the 2011 World Bandy Championships.
Canada’s opponent for that match will not be known until the completion of pool A play on Thursday.
