SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — Jennifer Jones of Team Canada improved to 2-0 at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts national women’s curling championship here this morning.
Jones defeated Andrea Kelly of New Brunswick 5-4.
Meanwhile, Jill Thurston’s Team Manitoba foursome beat Nancy McConnery of Nova Scotia 7-3 to pick up her first win and move to 1-1.
McConnery and Kelly are both already 0-3.
Thurston plays Shelley Nichols of Newfoundland/Labrador this afternoon.
Jones, attempting to win a third straight Scotties national title, meets Amber Holland of Saskatchewan this afternoon.
Both Winnipeg teams have a bye tonight.
Meanwhile, Kelly Scott of British Columbia, a former Winnipegger, won her first game, downing Northwest Territories/Yukon 7-6.
The championship wraps up Sunday, Feb. 7.
