WINNIPEG–Flags are at half-mast at city hall this morning in honour of the memory of Charleswood-Tuxedo Coun. Bill Clement.
The 27-year council veteran died Monday of complications from his cancer treatment.
A meeting of council’s public works committee, which Clement chaired, has been cancelled this morning.
City hall is in a sombre mood as councillors wander into the building.
"Gruff exterior, but he had a warm heart," said St. Boniface Coun. Dan Vandal.
Mayor Sam Katz said he last saw Clement on Saturday in hospital.
Clement had told other councillors he was suffering from pneumonia, a complication of his treatment for lymphoma.
A book of condolences will be at city hall until the next council meeting on May 19.
