Aboriginal grandmothers will be gathering outside a West End home on Thursday  where two children were shot last Wednesday.

The Grandmothers Protecting our Children Council, also known as Kookum Gaa Na Dam Ma Waad Abinoojiig in Ojibwe, will be gathering outside the home in the 500 block of Victor Street at noon.

A 10-year-old  girl and an eight-year-old girl, who were playing inside the home when the shooting happened, are recovering.

Police have arrested a 19-year-old  man and charged him with attempted murder.

A 14-year-old boy is also charged with two counts of aggravated assault in connection with the Victor Street shooting.

Both are allegedly members of local gangs.

The grandmothers group wants to go to provincial jails and meet with gang-involved people, as well as have a summit with provincial politicians and Aboriginal leaders to talk about how gang issues can be dealt with by communities.

Police said the Victor Street attack followed the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Kyle Earl last Tuesday outside a Toronto Street home.

The same 19-year-old is alleged to have chased after two suspects after Earl was shot. He is alleged to have
shot at two cars on Agnes Street with three people inside. The vehicles were apparently not involved in the shooting and no occupants were injured.

Police charged him with three counts of attempted murder in connection with the Agnes Street shooting.
