WINNIPEG – The axe has come down on the first group of Winnipeg Blue Bomber prospects.
The club announced the release of a handful of players Saturday in advance of the opening of main training camp Sunday morning.
Released were Queen’s receiver Chris Ioannides, fullback Guilluame Senecal of Laval, import linebacker Henti Baird of Hampton, offensive lineman Darren Hinds of Saskatchewan and former University of Manitoba defensive lineman Justin Shaw.
As well, veteran Canadian safety Ian Logan was placed on the disabled list.
Meanwhile, as expected, the club officially suspended quarterback Stefan LeFors on Saturday. He couldn’t officially be placed on the suspended list until veterans were required to report.
LeFors indicated weeks ago he would not be returning and is apparently taken a job at his alma mater, the University of Louisville.
The Bombers also confirmed the signing of Canadian fullback Andre Sadeghian (5-11, 235, McMaster) who spent part of last year with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats after being drafed 24th overall by the B.C. Lions in 2007. Sadeghian dressed for all 18 games with the Lions in 2007, split time with Hamilton and Saskatchewan in 2008 before joining the Tabbies again last year.
In his senior season with the Marauders, Sadeghian was a CIS Second Team All-Canadian after rushing for 886 yards and 10 touchdowns.
