ABBOTSFORD, B.C. — Tim Bachman, a founding member of the 1970s band Bachman-Turner Overdrive, is scheduled to appear in court today facing child sex charges.
Abbotsford, B.C., police Const. Ian MacDonald said Bachman is charged with sexual assault, sexual interference involving someone under 14, and touching a young person for sexual purpose.
The 58-year-old was part of the Winnipeg rock band Brave Belt and then Bachman-Turner Overdrive, the hit-making band that went on to sell more than 20 million albums in the early ‘70s.
Tim Bachman was a guitarist and vocalist with the band that was led by his older brother, Randy Bachman, and Fred Turner. Another Bachman brother, Robbie, played drums in the band.
Tim Bachman played on the band’s first two albums on hits like “Let It Ride,” “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet,” and “Takin’ Care of Business.”
He left the band in 1974 but rejoined for a reunion tour in 1984 subsequently went on to lead revival tours of the band in 1987 and 1988.
Tim Bachman has worked as a realtor in Abbotsford, B.C. since 1991. He was a director of the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board from 2003-08.
Police laid charges against him in May after an 11-month investigation. A complaint was filed with police March 28, 2009.
The alleged offences took place between 2000 and 2004 when the alleged victim was between 11 and 14 years old.
In 2008, Tim Bachman suffered a heart attack and subsequently underwent quadruple by-pass surgery.
