Another Manitoban has been added to the stellar field at the $300,000 Players Cup this week.

Carman assistant pro Scott Borsa birdied the second playoff hole this afternoon at Glendale Golf and Country Club to gain one of the four spots available in the Monday qualifier.

Borsa, who turned pro just last fall, shot a one-under-par round of 71 and went to extra holes with three rivals. The four played for two spots, and Borsa claimed the first one with a well-placed wedge approach and a 15-foot putt at the par-4 11th at Glendale.

Lysterfield, Australia’s Michael Moore led the qualifying field today with a three-under 69, while Scottsdale, Ariz.’s Brandon Askew followed right behind with a 70.

In the playoff, Borsa was the first to grab a spot and Jordan Irwin of Calgary took the other against Phil Telliard of California and Brent McCullough of Australia.

Borsa joins Adam Speirs, Matt Johnston, Ryan Horn, Tyler Mancini, Shane Dick, his boss Dean North and amateur Scott Markham on the list of Manitoba players at this week’s seventh official stop of the Canadian Tour season.

Official action begins Thursday at Pine Ridge and the winner’s cheque for $48,000 and a spot in next week’s RBC Canadian Open will be awarded Sunday.
