WINNIPEG – City council’s executive policy committee has voted to change the name of Dakota Community Centre to Jonathan Toews Community Centre.

The move formalizes an announcement made on Sunday.

The community centre board supports the name change, Mayor Sam Katz said.

The move still faces council approval.

The province plans to name a lake after Toews, captain of the Stanley Cup-winning Chicago Blackhawks.
