One man is dead and a woman seriously injured following a collision between a motorcycle and a car this morning northeast of Ile des Chenes.

RCMP spokesman Const. Miles Hiebert said a motorcycle carrying two people was headed westbound on Hwy. 405 when it collided with a car going southbound on Poirier Road.

One motorcycle occupant, a man, died of his injuries. The second rider of the bike, a woman, was transported to hospital with serious, undetermined injuries, RCMP said.

The report came in at 9:20 a.m., said Hiebert. At 10:30 a.m. crews had the intersection of Poirier Road and Hwy. 405 taped off while a towtruck pulled a grey, older model Audi, its driver’s side damaged, from the ditch.

One crumpled cruiser motorcycle rested on the road and another Honda sport bike was parked nearby. Two helmets and a pair of riding boots lay on the road.

Alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in the collision, and road conditions were good, Hiebert said.

RCMP are still investigating.

No names are being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.
