WINNIPEG – Police are again asking for the public’s help in finding a missing aboriginal woman and her former boyfriend, who they believe may have information about her disappearance.
Mildred Flett, 51, also known as Mildred Nelson, last made contact with family and friends at the beginning of June, and police say that is out of character for her.
The Winnipeg Police Service first put out a missing person alert in early July, but the trail remains cold.
Angeline Nelson, Flett’s daughter, told the Free Press in mid-July her family filed a missing persons report with police on June 24 after they tried unsuccessfully to contact her.
Flett, who did not have a phone at her downtown apartment, has not responded to repeated Facebook messages from her children since June. To data, a poster campaign has failed to net any information about her whereabouts.
Flett is about 5-foot-10, 140 pounds with wavy dark hair and brown eyes. Police believe Flett may have cut her hair short.
Meanwhile, police are still searching for Flett’s ex-boyfriend. Anthony Joseph Martin, 46, was last seen in late July in central Winnipeg wearing black gym pants, a dark blue T-shirt and appeared "somewhat disheveled," police said.
Police believe Martin may have information on Flett’s whereabouts. Police have previously said they do not suspect foul play.
Angeline Nelson said her mother dated Martin for about seven years. Flett filed a protection order against him in February. The order prevented the man from communicating with Flett for three years or coming within 200 metres of her Smith Street apartment.
Martin is also currently wanted on an unrelated warrant for his arrest.
Anyone with information regarding the two missing people is asked to contact the Winnipeg Police Service missing persons unit at 986-6250.
