WINNIPEG – Mayor Sam Katz’s re-election team has sent out another round of voice-mail messages to Winnipeg households.

In the new message – identical to a radio spot airing on CJOB-68 – Winnipeg Police Association president Mike Sutherland and United Firefighters of Winnipeg president Alex Forrest reiterate their unions’ endorsements of the two-term mayor. They also urge voters to re-elect Katz on Oct. 27.  Listen to the ad (.mp3)

“Sam listened and delivered on what we need to ensure your safety,” Sutherland says in the message, which counts as a Katz campaign expense.

The ad makes no mention of mayoral challenger Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

In an interview earlier this week, Forrest criticized the Canadian Union of Public Employees and the Manitoba Government and general Employees Union, claiming they will not admit they are supporting Wasylycia-Leis.

A round of Katz voice messages last weekend suggested Wasylycia-Leis’ proposed property-tax increases could cause low-income people to lose their homes.
