Mayor Sam Katz is promising to boost the Lights on Broadway festival from one day to four and earmark cash for neighbourhood block parties.
At his latest policy announcement this afternoon, Katz said he would set aside $57,000 yearly in in-kind services for Lights on Broadway and Ciclovia, the popular cycling festival. In-kind services include police and transit overtime and public works staff time to block off roads for the street festivals.
He also pledge to boost the general street closure budget from $47,000 to $100,000 to help blocks and community groups host events.
