The plug is officially pulled on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ 2010 playoff hopes.

In a game where the Bombers lost both their starting and backup quarterbacks to injury, the home team fell 27-8 to the Toronto Argonauts in front of a disgruntled crowd of 23,446 customers at Canad Inns Stadium.

The loss left the Bombers 4-12 and ended their already razor-thin playoff chances with two games still remaining in the season. The Argos improved to 8-8.

Bombers starter Steven Jyles suffered a separated shoulder late in the first quarter after getting slammed to the turf by Argos linebacker Kevin Eiben on a scramble. With their starter probably lost for the season, back-up Alex Brink was forced to the sideline with a shoulder injury early in the third quarter. Brink did not return, and the Bombers finished the contest with third stringer Joey Elliott, who was 6-of-14 for 55 yards in relief.

Neither Jyles nor Brink was particularly effective. Jyles finished 3-of-4 for 25 yards, while Brink was 7-of-12 for 50 yards and the Winnipeg offence struggled mightily throughout.

The Argos, meanwhile, built their lead on a 69-yard touchdown pass from Cleo Lemon to running back Cory Boyd and a 109-yard TD return by Chad Owens on a missed field-goal attempt from Winnipeg place-kicker Justin Palardy late in the first half.

With the loss, the Bombers’ hopes of a crossover berth in the West were dashed, as the B.C. Lions improved to 6-10 with a dramatic 36-31 victory over the Calgary Stampeders Friday night in Calgary,
