Sign No. 1 the Winnipeg Blue Bombers have had a swack of injuries and are desperate for help: it’s late October, the team is out of the playoffs and it has just signed a third new quarterback in four days.

The Bombers announced Thursday they have added import pivot Zac Champion to their practice roster, just days after adding Frank Wilczynski and Justin Goltz in the wake of losing Steven Jyles and Alex Brink to injury in last week’s loss to the Toronto Argonauts.

Champion (6-2, 192, Louisiana Tech) spent 2008 and 2009 with the B.C. Lions, throwing for two touchdowns while being intercepted four times. He joined the Calgary Stampeders in the offseason and was released following training camp

The 26-year-old Birmingham product started 25 games at Louisiana Tech, throwing for 4,725 yards and 27 TDs, finishing in eighth spot on the school’s all-time career passing yardage list.

The Bombers leave Friday morning for Edmonton and their final road game of the 2010 season Saturday night against the Eskimos.
