MORRIS, Man. — Manitoba’s Terry McNamee will head into Wednesday at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship in Morris with no less than a share of first place following a 9-2 victory over Newfoundland’s Gary Wensman on the Tuesday afternoon draw.
McNamee cracked a four-ender on Newfoundland in the third end and then stole four more points in a game that saw Wensman curl just 52 percent and concede defeat after just seven ends.
The win came just one draw after Manitoba had suffered their first defeat of the event, falling 8-3 to previously winless Quebec on the morning draw.
Manitoba will head into Wednesday with a 6-1 record. But New Brunswick’s Charlie Sullivan could still make it a tie for first place if his 5-1 squad can beat PEI (4-1) on the evening draw tonight.
Manitoba resumes play at the Morris Curling Club on Wednesday with games against Alberta on the morning draw (9:30 a.m.) and Nova Scotia in the evening (6:30 p.m.).
