THE Manitoba Theatre for Young People finds itself in the spotlight instead of its actors.

The stage company is being honoured with two awards for its work with kids in the next week.

At a luncheon Friday, the Canadian Network for Arts and Learning will recognize MTYP’s “remarkable and enduring contribution” and that of founding artistic director Leslee Silverman to the cultural life of young people in Manitoba and across Canada.

Next Tuesday at a reception in the Manitoba legislature’s dining room, the Manitoba Human Rights Commission, the Canadian Human Rights Commission and the Manitoba Association for Rights and Liberties will present the 2010 Human Rights Commitment Award to MTYP for “the achievement of promoting human rights and social transformation for almost 30 years.”
