OTTAWA – Indian Affairs Minister John Duncan underwent heart surgery Tuesday.
A message posted on the Indian Affairs website says the minister underwent heart valve replacement for a congenital heart defect on Dec. 14.
“Minister Duncan is in good health and will be recuperating at home for the next few weeks,” the message reads.
Heritage Minister James Moore has temporarily taken over Duncan’s responsibilities.
Duncan was promoted to cabinet earlier this year after serving as the parliamentary secretary for Indian and Northern Affairs since 2008.
Born in Winnipeg, he lives in British Columbia and represents the riding of Vancouver Island North.
