Southern Manitoba is about to get a special delivery of white stuff from our neighbours to the south.

Environment Canada has issued a storm warning for a strip of Southern Manitoba from Sprague in the east to Altona in the west, with blowing snow and cooler weather expected in Winnipeg later today.

The nasty weather system moving into Manitoba from the Dakotas is expected to dump a few centimetres of snow along the Trans-Canada highway and up to 10 cm along the international border by Thursday morning.

In Winnipeg, the forecast calls for two to four centimetres of snow and a high of -8 Celsius. Expect blowing snow in open areas with north winds of 20 kilometres per hour gusting from 40 to 60 km/h near midnight. An overnight low of -20 C is expected. With the windchill, it will feel like -33.

Thursday, there is a 60 per cent chance of flurries expected in the morning with gusting north winds and a high of -18 C that will feel like -34. Friday and Saturday call for sunny skies and highs of -18 C in Winnipeg.
