TORONTO — Prince William and Kate Middleton will be travelling to Canada this summer on their first official trip as a married couple.

An official from Canada said late Tuesday the newlyweds will travel across the country from the end of June to mid-July.

The two will take part in Canada Day celebrations in Ottawa on July 1. Their stay will also include a trip to the Arctic. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak about it publicly.

Media reports say Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Governor General David Johnston are expected to announce the royal visit Wednesday.

Harper invited the couple to Canada after they announced their engagement last November. Canada is also issuing stamps in their honour. The wedding is April 29.
