Team Manitoba picked up its second bronze medal today in the women’s air pistol team event at the Canada Winter Games in Halifax.

Caroline Sims of Minnedosa and East St. Paul’s Tanis Milne, shot a total score of 695 to finish third behind Yukon and British Columbia, who both tied with 710 points. Individually, Sims shot a score of 355 out of a possible 400 and Milne shot a 340 out of 400.

“I think that was an average score for me, but it still felt pretty good though,” said Simms, who was introduced to air pistol by her riding coach, after she took up the sport of tetrathalon about a four years ago. “After I got introduced to air pistol, I just fell in love with it and decided to go with it.”

Milne, whose pistol (which holds only one shot at a time) cost her “around $2,000”, said she didn’t really think much about where they would end up in the placings. “I am absolutely happy with that (her score). It’s not my personal best, but it is one of the higher scores up there.”

Manitoba’s other bronze medal was won Monday when the women’s air rifle team of Connor Deneka and Heather McCrea took third place.

In men’s team pistol competition, Turk Scatliff shot a score of 533 and Kevin Boreskie had a 519, as Team Manitoba settled for fifth place when they tied with British Columbia with 1,052 points. Manitoba lost the countback, placing B.C. fourth, and Manitoba fifth.

Manitoba’s medal count is now two bronze, with no golds or silvers.
