Canada’s military will be helping with the flood battle along the Assiniboine River from Portage la Prairie to Headingley, Premier Greg Selinger said at a news conference this evening.
He contacted Prime Minister Stephen Harper today to ask for help from the Canadian Armed Forces. Harper promised to send help as the province scrambles to raise and monitor dikes along the record- high river that’s bracing for more rain over the next few days.
Selinger said up to 200 soldiers – including reservists – could be on the job by early Monday.
