WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Blue Bombers added to their growing arsenal of young pass catchers, taking non-import wide receiver Kito Poblah in the CFL supplemental draft this morning.
The 6-foot-2, 213-pound receiver had 154 catches for 1,908 yards and 15 touchdowns in 53 career games with Central Michigan last year.
Poblah also returned 11 kickoffs for 220 yards.
By taking the talented Poblah, who was born in Montreal, the Bombers give up their first pick in the CFL college draft next year. This means the Bombers have drafted two, blue-chip Canadian receivers this off-season, having selected University of Saskatchewan’s Jade Etienne with the fourth overall pick in the college draft earlier this month.
Other supplemental selections saw the Edmonton Eskimos take Ole Miss defensive tackle Ted Laurent with their second round pick. The B.C. Lions went with Wilfrid Laurier defensive lineman Alex Ellis with their sixth-round pick.
The supplemental draft is for players who were unable to prove their Canadian eligibility prior to the regular college entry draft.
Winnipeg begins on-field preparations for the 2011 season with the start of rookie camp Wednesday. Veterans report to main camp for physicals on Saturday.
