True North issued a brief statement Sunday afternoon in regards to the firing of GM Rick Dudley.
“After meeting with Rick Dudley this week, we have decided to go in another direction with the position of general manager of our team,” said Mark Chipman, chairman of the board of True North Sports & Entertainment.
“We informed Rick of our decision late yesterday afternoon, and thanked him for his work in building a foundation and future for this team. We will have no further comment on any personnel matters at this time.”
It’s believed True North is not on the hook for the remainder of Dudley’s contract.
Atlanta Spirit Group, former owners of the Thrashers, signed Dudley to an extension this past season and there are four years remaining on the term.
It’s believed True North negotiated for ASG to cover the contract if Dudley was not retained.
