WINNIPEG – If you went to see a movie on Valentine’s Day, you may have unsuspectingly shared your popcorn with a rodent.
The City of Winnipeg health department recently convicted Empire Theatres at Grant Park of operating a food service with insanitary conditions.
According to Diner’s Digest, the city’s website that publicly posts health code violations, the offence occurred on Feb. 14 and the foul conditions resulted in the “harborage and feeding of rodents.”
The movie theatre was also convicted of failing to protect against insanitary conditions. The city fined the theatre a total of $400 for both offences in May. The conviction was just recently posted online.
The company is the second local business to be convicted and fined for health-code violations so far this year.
Win Win Chinese restaurant on McPhillips Street was fined $1,551.90 for five health code violations in January, including sanitizing dishes and utensils improperly and failing to thaw food correctly.
