Eleven people were invested in the Order of Manitoba Tuesday at a ceremony at the Manitoba Legislative Building.

The honour is bestowed on people who have benefited the social, cultural or economic well-being of Manitoba. Since its inception in 1999, 157 people have been named to the Order of Manitoba.

The newest members of the Order of Manitoba are:

— Art DeFehr, furniture mogul and philanthropist, CEO of Palliser Furniture and founding chairman of the Canadian Foodgrains Bank;

— Susan Lewis, United Way president since 1985;

— Fred Penner, children’s entertainer;

— Jim Carr, CEO of the Manitoba Business Council;

— Patrick Choy, cardiovascular researcher and Chinese community leader;

— Rayleen DeLuca, clinical psychologist and pioneering researcher in the area of victims of abuse;

— Henry Idonije, Brandon’s StreetLove founder and pastor who provides advocacy and support for the poor and homeless;

–Eugene Kostyra, former cabinet minister and public servant;

— Raymond “Sonny” Lavallee, community volunteer and the driving force behind The Pas’ Trappers’ Festival;

— Kathy Mallett, aboriginal community leader, who has helped set up many service organizations and economic development projects;

— Raymond Poirier, administrator and businessman, who has devoted decades to the development of the francophone community in Manitoba.

Award-winning author Miriam Toews was also recommended to receive the order but will be invested at a later date, a press release from the Order of Manitoba advisory council said.
