Ruth “Babs” Asper, mother to Winnipeg’s prominent Asper family, has died.
Asper passed away suddenly this morning at the St. Boniface Hospital, according to a statement from the family. She was 78 years old.
Funeral arrangements are still being made. The family is requesting privacy to deal with the loss.
Babs Asper was mother to David, Gail and Leonard Asper, and wife to the late media magnate Israel ‘Izzy’ Asper, who died in 2003. She was chair and co-founder of The Asper Foundation, a Winnipeg-based private charitable foundation.
