The Winnipeg Jets have made it official: veteran centre Kyle Wellwood has been signed to a contract.

The 28-year-old product of Windsor is believed to have signed a one-year deal worth $700,000, although the club would not release terms of the agreement. News of Wellwood’s addition originally broke Thursday evening before being confirmed by the Jets Friday.

Originally drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the fifth round, 134th overall, of the 2001 NHL entry draft, Wellwood has appeared in 373 NHL games with the Leafs, Vancouver Canucks and San Jose Sharks. He split last year with the Sharks and Mytishchi Atlant of the KHL after failing to land a roster spot with the Phoenix Coyotes. He has 68 goals in his career and 173 points and last year added depth to San Jose’s lineup, chipping in five goals and adding eight assists in 35 games.
