WINNIPEG – The expected bad news regarding Joe Lobendahn’s knee arrived Tuesday.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers middle linebacker has a torn ACL in his right knee and will be lost for the remainder of the season, the club announced.

Lobendahn, a two-time defensive player of the week in the CFL this season, suffered the injury on a punt in the second quarter of Sunday’s 45-23 loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The 28-year-old Lobendahn, who had 32 tackles, two sacks, one interception and four fumble recoveries this season, will require surgery. The club placed the Hawaii-product on the nine-game injury reserve list Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the news on Buck Pierce’s health is a little more positive.

According to the team, the starting quarterback has bruised ribs and is listed as day-to-day in advance of the much-anticipated matchup with the Montreal Alouettes (6-4) Sunday.

Winnipeg (7-3) is back on the practice field Wednesday.
