The buzz is still palpable and the vibe all good.
The Winnipeg Jets scored a 3-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes Wednesday night at MTS Centre and, just like the debut a week ago, the crowd is electric and oohing and aahing after every big save and scoring chance.
The Hurricanes took a 1-0 lead in the second period after a horrible line change by the Jets gift-wrapped a glorious opportunity for Tim Brent, who beat goaltender Chris Mason with a nefty deke on a breakaway.
Winnipeg was unable to beat Canes netminder Brian Boucher for two periods before breaking through in the third on two goals from Evander Kane and another by Blake Wheeler.
“We probably could have popped in a few more. It was good to get those two in the third,” said rookie Mark Scheifele. “That was definitely a sigh of relief. We outshot them by a bunch. We finally pump in a few and that gave us confidence and we kept on going.”
The Jets will host the Nashville Predators on Friday night in their final game of the pre-season.
