Thirty of the 32 curling teams that will compete at the Manitoba men’s curling championship next month in Dauphin have now been determined, with just two more still to be decided tonight.
Three more provincials berths were awarded Monday morning on the final day of the MCA Bonspiel, with Pembina’s Dave Johnson, West St. Paul’s Carl German and West Kildonan’s Trevor Loreth all punching their tickets to Dauphin on the 9 a.m. draw.
The two final provincial berths will be determined in tiebreaker games tonight. Carberry’s Geoff Trimble will play Pilot Mound’s Curtis McCannell for one spot, while Fort Garry’s Robert Baldwinson will play St. Vital’s Bruce Jones for the other spot.
Those games will be played at 7 p.m. at the Granite Curling Club, which is also the time and location of the Bonspiel championship game between Winnipeg’s Sean Grassie and Green Bay’s Craig Brown. Brown is seeking to become the first non-Manitoban to win the MCA Bonspiel in over 50 years.
