Looking to add a little competition to the special teams department, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers picked up a punter Thursday.

The Bombers acquired import punter Eric Wilbur from the Edmonton Eskimos for a conditional sixth round pick in the 2013 CFL draft. The move comes days after the club lost out on free agent non-import punter Burke Dales, who signed with the Eskimos.

“Eric provides our team with depth at the kicking positions, specifically punting and kickoffs,” Bombers GM Joe Mack said in a statement. “He will provide great competition for our young kickers in camp.”

Wilbur had signed with the Eskimos earlier this month. He returns to the CFL after spending the 2011 season with the UFL’s Omaha Nighthawks. In 2010, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Orlando-product played in 13 games with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, punting 85 times for 3,651 yards for a 43-yard average.

The 27-year-old averaged 57.5 yards on 25 kickoffs in the 2010 season.

Non-import Mike Renaud is the only other punter on the Bombers roster at this point.
