The Winnipeg Blue Bombers dropped a line in the free agent pool and pulled out one of their own.
The local CFL club announced the re-signing of import offensive lineman Andre Douglas Wednesday. Terms of the deal were not released.
The 25-year-old became a free agent following the Feb. 15 deadline and had intentions of exploring the NFL market this winter. He didn’t find much interest for his services, though, so with the NFL draft approaching and clubs ready invest on those young prospects, he decided to return to the CFL and the Bombers.
The signing is good news for Winnipeg.
By bringing back Douglas, the Bombers managed to retain three of their four free agent offensive linemen this off-season. Glenn January and Steve Morley re-upped with the club, while the fourth free agent O-lineman, CFL all-star Brendon LaBatte, signed on with the Saskatchewan Roughriders earlier this month.
“We’re happy to have Andre back with us for another season,” Bombers GM Joe Mack said in a statement. “Continuity along the offensive line is key and this signing allows us to keep another piece of last year’s offensive line intact.”
Douglas, a 6-foot-4, 318-pound left tackle out of Temple, played all 18 regular season games for the Bombers in 2011, and has only missed three games in his two years in Winnipeg.
The club also announced the signing of import defensive lineman Andre Caroll Wednesday. The 23-year-old out of Delaware State attended Bombers training camp last season but was released before the season.
