A city committee has settled a dispute over a historic marble floor in a Main Street nightclub.

In February, the city ordered the owner of 441 Main St. to restore the original marble floor in the historic building. The building has been home to numerous nightclubs in recent years and is currently occupied by Opera Ultralounge.

Building owner Gil Rossong appealed the city’s order and said his tenant tiled over the marble floor without a building permit. Rossong said the work was done in 2009 when he was out of town, and the city should hold the tenant responsible.

Council’s downtown development committee voted that work should be done to restore the original floor the next time the nightclub undergoes renovations.
