The Assiniboine Park’s Duck Pond received a $1.5-million donation from the Riley family.
The improvements to the duck pond have already happened as part of the ongoing redevelopment of Assiniboine Park. The donation from the Riley Family was used to make these improvements possible.
The Assiniboine Park Conservancy announced the donation Friday, courtesy of the Riley family.
The announcement was made at the Duck Pond in Assiniboine Park by J. Derek Riley and H. Sanford (Sandy) Riley, grandson and great-grandson, respectively, of the late Robert Thomas ‘RT’ Riley, a prominent Winnipeg business man and one of the founders of Great-West Life Assurance Company.
The Riley family was officially recognized at today’s announcement with the naming of the pond the Riley Family Duck Pond.

The Assiniboine Park’s Duck Pond will be getting major improvements after a $1.5 million donation from the Riley family.
The Assiniboine Park Conservancy announced the donation Friday, saying the money would go to improvements to the duck pond.
In order to recognize the donation, the duck pond will now be known as the Riley Family Duck Pond, said the Conservancy.
