Left tackle Glenn January was a full participant in practice Tuesday, and looks to be close to returning to the Bombers lineup when they take on the Montreal Alouettes at Molson Stadium Friday night.

January, who’s been dealing with a leg issue and was feeling the effects of the heat Tuesday, wasn’t available to speak to the media after the workout at a blistering Canad Inns Stadium, but head coach Paul LaPolice was optimistic the 29-year-old would be a player against the Als.

“It’s always good to get experienced guys back,” LaPolice said when asked what kind of difference a six-year CFL veteran like January could make. ”If we can’t, it’s our job to find a way without him, but it would be good to have him back.”

Right now, January’s status for Montreal is still to be determined.

The Bombers could certainly use some more veteran savvy along the offensive line after the game in Vancouver last week, as stretches of the 33-16 loss to the Lions last Friday resembled more of a fire drill than pass protection, as the B.C. defensive line continually forced the Bombers offence into decisions they weren’t ready to make.

If January is a go, he would take up his left tackle position along the line. Rookie Jordan Taormina would switch over to the other side and fill the void left by right tackle Andre Douglas, who’s still out with a hip injury.

Quarterback Buck Pierce is also ready to suit up against the East Division rivals. He showed no signs of injury at practice Tuesday after suffering a knee injury which chased him from the B.C. in the first half.

The Bombers have one more day of practice before they head to Montreal Thursday.

NOTES: Defensive end Jason Vega was back on the field Tuesday. A determination on his availability for Montreal will be made Wednesday… Individual game tickets for the last five home games of the season are on sale Wednesday, the club announced. Tickets for the first four home games are already on sale… The club has sold over 25,000 tickets for the home opener July 26 against Edmonton.
