A descendant of a renowned Métis leader will receive the key to the city.
Tonight, Coun. Scott Fielding (St. James-Brooklands) will present the key to the city to Sir James Grant of Grant, a descendant of Cuthbert Grant.
Cuthbert Grant died in 1854 and was a fur trader, Métis leader, and founding settler of the area now known as St. Francois Xavier. Grant Avenue and Grant’s Old Mill are named in his honour.
Sir James, known as Lord Strathspey, is visiting Winnipeg from Scotland to develop a connection between the Métis descendants of Cuthbert Grant and the Clan Grant.
Fielding will present Sir James with the key to the city at a banquet at Canad Inns Polo Park this evening.
