Eskimos’ Carr and Kent won’t play against former team at Bombers’ first home game

The Edmonton Eskimos will be without former Winnipeg Blue Bombers players Greg Carr and Clint Kent when they face the Bombers at Canad Inns Stadium Thursday evening.

Kent, a popular Bombers linebacker until he was abruptly released last month, has not played since he hurt his leg in Week 3 during a 42-10 Eskimo win over the Bombers and was on the injured list of the roster Edmonton released Wednesday.

Carr, a receiver for the Bombers in 2010 and 2011, who signed as a free agent with Edmonton over the winter, has been battling a nagging ankle injury and is also on the injured list.

The Eskimos will, however, have another former Bombers player with them on Thursday — starting tackle Don Oramasionwu, who got a sack against the Bombers the last time the two teams played.

Former Bombers slotback Aaron Hargreaves is also on the Eskimos 46-man roster for Thursday.

The Bombers head into Thursday as the only winless team in the CFL at 0-4, while the Eskimos are tied for first in the West Division at 3-1.

The one new variable, however, is that Winnipeg will finally be playing at home on Thursday for the first time this season.

“I think our whole team feeds off the crowd,” Bombers head coach Paul LaPolice told a pre-game news conference at Canad Inns Stadium Wednesday morning.

“They get excited when the crowd gets pumped up. It’s a good thing. And especially (because) we’re a market where football’s real important here and when it’s a home game, it means something.”

Meanwhile, the agent for former Montreal Alouettes defensive tackle Aaron Hunt said he has contacted the Bombers about his client’s services. Hunt was released this week by the Als and the Bombers just last week lost one of their starting defensive tackles, Brandon Collier, to injury.

But LaPolice said after reviewing film of Hunt, the club has decided to pass.

“We evaluated the film and at this time have no interest,” LaPolice said.

Hunt was a longtime member of the BC Lions until he was signed away last winter by the Als in what was considered at the time one of the winter’s big CFL free agent signings.

The Als have struggled on defence this season, however, prompting calls for change.
