A “high risk” convicted sex offender has been released from jail and is expected to take up residence somewhere in Winnipeg.

Ryan James Gabourie, 31, was released from Headingley Correctional Institution on Nov. 13 and is considered a high risk to become involved in further sexual offences against children, according to a police community notification warning. Male and female children are at risk.

Gabourie has a history of sexual offences against children. His previous offences involve sexually molesting five young boys, ages five to 11, by entering their homes through unlocked windows or doors. He chose homes where children’s toys were visible in the yard or could be seen inside the homes by peering in windows, police say.

Gabourie participated in some sex-offender treatment programs while in custody, but police believe both male and female children are at risk.

Gabourie’s most recent convictions involved breaching the terms of a recognizance order, which occurred seven days after he was released from serving seven years in federal custody. On June 28, 2012, he breached his curfew condition as well as a condition not to possess or operate any device with internet amenities or connections.

The information is provided to enable members of the public to take measures to protect themselves. Police warn that any form of vigilante activity directed at Gabourie will not be tolerated.

He is Caucasian, stands 5’8″ and weighs about 198 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes.

Anyone with information about Gabourie can contact the Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit at 984-1888.
