KINGSTON -- B.C.’s Kelly Scott improved to 3-2 here at the Canadian women’s curling championship Tuesday afternoon. And she did it in spectacular fashion.

KINGSTON — B.C.’s Kelly Scott improved to 3-2 here at the Canadian women’s curling championship Tuesday afternoon. And she did it in spectacular fashion.

Tied 7-7 with New Brunswick’s Andrea Crawford, Scott authored an in-off for a six-ender with the final rock of the ninth end to win 13-7 and take over sole possession of fifth place, a game behind idle Saskatchewan (4-1) who presently hold down the fourth and final playoff berth.

In other games on Tuesday’s afternoon draw, Nova Scotia’s Mary-Anne Arsenault finally got her first win, dropping NWT’s Kerry Galusha 10-7 and PEI’s Suzanne Birt stole two in an extra end to defeat Quebec’s Allison Ross 8-6.

In the only other game this afternoon, Newfoundland’s Stacie Devereaux and Alberta’s Kristie Moore hooked up in a battle of winless teams, which Newfoundland won easily 8-3.

The loss leaves Alberta as the last winless team remaining in the field at 0-5. And things aren’t likely to get much easier for them tonight when they face undefeated Manitoba (5-0).

It will be the only game of today for Manitoba, who also have just one game again tomorrow. It will be a big game tomorrow, however, as Manitoba faces its toughest challenge here so far against defending champion Heather Nedohin, who is also 5-0.

Nedohin faces BC tonight, while the only other undefeated team still remaining — Ontario’s Rachel Homan — faces Quebec.
