ҕӕ ABOUT THE DEVILS

The Jets will run into another surly opponent — this is the third straight game on this road trip their host is coming off a loss — the Devils fell 5-1 to Washington in D.C. Alex Ovechkin lit up the Devils with three goals, his first hat trick in more than two years.

The Devils are an impressive 6-1-2 at home.

Bryce Salvador of Brandon was named the Devils captain on Jan. 17, becoming the 10th man to wear the ‘C’ in New Jersey history. He joins Don Lever, Mel Bridgman, Kirk Muller, Bruce Driver, Scott Stevens, Scott Niedermayer, Patrik Elias, Jamie Langenbrunner and Zach Parise as Devils who have worn the ‘C.’

Ex-Jet Alex Ponikarovsky picked up an assist on the lone Devils’ goal against the Caps, by Ilya Kovalchuk, and now has a goal and a a helper since being swapped for two draft picks.

Devils forward David Clarkson, who has been so good early in this condensed season, has now gone four games without registering a point.
