Hey there, time traveller!
This article was published 13/05/2013 (4908 days ago), so information in it may no longer be current.
Will the city’s newest multi-millionaire claim the big prize today? Will they skip work, hide at home and just try to figure out what to do next?
Will they wait a few months before going public?
Do they even know they struck it rich?
Did a group of friends or co-workers hit the jackpot?
Those are the big questions still to be answered after it was learned the winning ticket in Saturday’s $17-million Lotto 6/49 draw was purchased in Winnipeg.
“It’s very exciting,” Andrea Marantz, spokeswoman for the Western Canada Lotteries Corporation, said this morning.
“Today is the earliest they could be in touch with us. But it’s not uncommon for someone to not even know they won yet. People have their habits on checking their tickets.”
Marantz wouldn’t divulge the location where the winning ticket was purchased.
“We don’t release that until the winner comes forward,” she said.
The winning numbers were 2, 10, 16, 21, 24 and 49, according to results posted Sunday on the WCLC website.
The total jackpot is $17,026,623.50.
It’s the largest jackpot won in Manitoba since Kirby and Marie Fontaine of Sagkeeng First Nation won the $50-million Lotto Max prize in 2009.
Prior to that, Manitoba’s record lottery jackpot prize had been won by Winnipeg banker Dawn Fraser, who won $27.2 million off a Lotto 6/49 ticket in November 2005.
In 2007, a Standard Aero aircraft mechanic won $17 million through the Millionaire Life Lottery.
