The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will hold a relay run June 22-27 in nine Manitoba communities with the official CFL football that will be used in the first game to be played in the new Investors Group Field.
Communities visited will include Portage la Prairie on June 22, Brandon on June 23, Morden, Winkler and Altona on June 24th, Steinbach on June 25, Gimli and Selkirk on June 26th and Winnipeg on June 27.
“It’ll be a proud moment for us all to see this ball, touched by so many fans, make its way to centre field as an important part of the June 27th Opening Ceremonies,” Doug Brown, the Kickoff Run Ambassador, said in a media release. “The opening of Investors Group Field will be a landmark day for football fans and the community alike and I am excited to be a part of this new era in Blue Bomber football.”
A total of 300 runners will be selected from contest opportunities. Entry details will be announced beginning on May 21 in the Winnipeg Free Press and fans can enter online at www.winnipegfreepress.com/contests.
Fans may also enter by dropping off a ballot at any Tim Hortons location or by tuning into radio partners at Golden West Radio, Westman Communications or CJOB/Power 97.
A special group of 20 runners will be chosen to participate in the Opening Ceremonies when the ball will be run to centre field by a surprise guest.
The Bombers will open the 2013 CFL season on June 27 with the grand opening of the Investors Group Field against the Montreal Alouettes.
